The Truth About The First Thanksgiving? Watch Video

Should Americans celebrate Thanksgiving as a day of gratitude? Or should they mourn it as a day of guilt? Michael Medved, the author of The American Miracle, shares the fascinating story of the first Thanksgiving.

Script:
Food, football, and…oppression. That’s what Thanksgiving has come to mean to many Americans. Back in 2007, Seattle public school officials made national news by describing the holiday as a “time of mourning” and a “bitter reminder of 500 years of betrayal.” This new narrative describes the Pilgrims as arrogant oppressors who fled persecution only to become persecutors themselves, depriving Native Americans of their land and their lives. But this is wrong on every count. First of all, the Pilgrims didn’t cross the ocean to flee persecution—or even England. They’d been living for over a decade in Holland, Europe’s most tolerant nation, and a haven for religious dissenters. Free from interference by the Church of England, they feared seduction—not persecution, worrying that their children would be corrupted by the materialistic Dutch culture. That’s why they risked their dangerous 1620 voyage to a wilderness continent: not because they were running from oppression, but because they were running toward holiness—fulfilling a fateful mission to build an ideal Christian commonwealth. They initially planned to plant this model society on the wild, wolf-infested island known to natives as Manhattan, but winds and tides blew them 250 miles off course, dumping the Mayflower on the frozen coast of Massachusetts. Somehow, the Pilgrims saw their dire situation as a demonstration of providential power—especially after a giant wave picked up the flimsy boat of a scouting party on a stormy December night. The turbulent sea then deposited them safely—miraculously—on a little island within sight of the ideal location for their settlement. It was a deserted Indian village with cleared land, stored supplies of corn, and a reliable source of fresh water. No, these supposedly cruel conquerors never actually invaded that village. Instead, they expressed a fervent desire to pay the natives for the dried corn they found, if only they could find someone to pay. But the former inhabitants had perished during three years of plague—probably smallpox—that immediately preceded the Pilgrims’ arrival. One of the few survivors of that devastation turned up several months later to welcome the English newcomers. Against all odds, he proved to be the single human being on the continent best-suited to help the struggling settlers, since he spoke English and had already embraced Christianity.

Govt. of Pakistan should treat each church equally; Protestant Clergymen

(It is the summary of inspecting the matter of banning house churches in Bahawalpur)

Regarding the issued orders of banning house churches, a delegation of clergy met deputy commissioner of the Bahawalpur district Mr. Rana Muhammad Saleem Afzal and expressed their concern and insecurity towards restrictions. These orders were issued on the complaint of the majority community who are disturbed by the Christian worship. Moreover, in the discussion, deputy commissioner revealed that the people from your religion making complaints against the independent or house churches.

Nine men accused of conduct worship services at houses and constructing new churches without taking permission from Roman Catholic Church and the district authorities.

A case filed in court and an application passed to the district police officer of Bahawalpur by Roman Catholic friars against these 9 men included;
1. Muneer Ameen Masih (Pastor)
2. Arshad Baghica (Pastor)
3. Maqsood Sooba Masih (Evangelist)
4. Shokat Faqiriya (Pastor)
5. Arshad Rehmat (Pastor)
6. Patras Nawab Gill (Pastor)
7. Javed Veeru (Pastor)
8. Pervaiz Barkat (Elder)
9. Naveed Shareef (Elder)

Friars complained that they are culprits and fictitious pastors and built churches without taking any permission from them. Why these people don’t come to their Roman Catholic Church?

It is a well-planned conspiracy against the growth of Protestant churches. Protestant churches are being affected from 2015 here. We all are residents of this city and doing ministry for years. Christians exist in Bahawalpur since the 1800s. The government of Pakistan should treat each church equally. Large buildings, institutions and the so-called selected Christian leaders whose religious affiliation with Roman Catholic Church can never disgrace protestant churches who are worshipping at houses in democratic countries. House Churches are a Biblical pattern of Christian worship. Roman Catholic Church should avoid these kinds of activities and respect other churches.

We demand to reopen the house churches and allow continuing worship services and permit to build new churches in Bahawalpur. We have the freedom to profess and to manage religious institution according to the constitution of Pakistan (*Article 20). We are protestant churches with historical backgrounds and heritage. Protestant Churches and their pastors do not need to take permission from Roman Catholic Church or their any diocese or bishop, said The Rt. Rev. Arslan Ul-Haq along with the Very Rev. Zaheer Kamran, Rev. Zafar Iqbal, Rev. Arshad Rehmat, Rev. Maqsood Ghani and others of National Ecumenical Council Pakistan.

*1. Article 20: 20. Freedom to profess religion and to manage religious institutions. — Subject to law, public order and morality-

(a) Every citizen shall have the right to profess, practice and propagate his religion; and

(b) Every religious denomination and every sect thereof shall have the right to establish, maintain and manage its religious institutions.

2. An online petition launched by Pastors alliance to urge Govt. officials to take an immediate action to protect our religious right to worship.
http://www.getpetition.com/petitions/take-immediate-notice-of-banning-house-churches

3. Pakistan denies that it is a safe haven for terrorists and on the other hand they do not allow worship services on houses because of the fear of terrorism even all the attacks on churches in previous years happened in the presence of police security.
4. Pakistan should be designated a “country of particular concern” because of its violations of religious freedom, according to a group of influential US senators.
5. Bahawalpur district is a hotbed of Deobandi extremism with more than 500 madrasas. See the link given below;

You may read the news about banning house churches and accusing of pastors through the links given below but the news published on these links is incomplete and with several mistakes. An email sent them to correct the mistakes that makes news fake and untrustworthy and can put all of the pastors in trouble but sadly no one concerned.
